Spike Island, Cork

September 18, 2022 by admin

If you are looking for a walking tour, why not take a trip to Spike Island and walk around a former prison?

You can get to Spike Island by a short ferry trip from Cobh, about 25 to 30 minutes from Cork City. Tickets for the ferry and tour of the island are included as one package and overall you can expect the tour to be about 3 and a half hours including the ferry trip. We parked at the Five Foot Way carpark and it is a 15-minute walk towards the town to the pier which is just past the Titanic Experience.

The tour goes through the Spike Island’s history and there are various museums and remains of the old prison to discover. There are also two walking trails, a fairy hunt for the kids, viewing points and a restaurant.

Cobh itself is also a beautiful town to spend some time in after the Spike Island tour.
